1-2-1 & MENTORING
I have run various 1-2-1 sessions on location with clients now since 2016 and have been mentoring individuals in short and long term scenarios since 2020 - See the info at the bottom of the page re: mentoring sessions (this includes short form online help & long-term mentoring options).
In terms of in-person 1-2-1 photography tutoring I offer these down on the Jurassic Coast near my Dorset home. However, I'm happy to travel to wherever you may be, or indeed somewhere we both may want to explore photographically. There is no 'set-formula' to these 1-2-1 location sessions, rather I tailor each session to the individual after a conversation and questionnaire I ask you to fill out which helps me (and you!) understand your photographic goals and ambitions.
BEGINNERS
I really enjoy helping new photographers get to grips with their equipment and the basics of exposure, shutter speed and f-stops. Once these technical aspects are understood the real creativity can begin. Here are some examples of the topics I may cover with a beginner, depending on their experience and goals:
Understanding the basics of composition
Getting to grips with your camera and settings
The use of filters for managing light
Optimising your image making process on location
Learning to seek out patterns, themes and light
Fundamentals of post processing

Price: £295 for 7 hours (on location)
These sessions can take in person (South West area) OR can be arranged further afield.
ADVANCING
Many adults I have met really have been bitten by the photography bug. Through application and perseverance they have mastered most of the technical skills required and now want to find their 'visual voice'. With more advanced clients I try to help them understand what motivates their image making, explore new advanced techniques and deeper compositional tools. It's really important I understand where you are now and what you feel you'd like to achieve so I'd usually spend some time on email or telephone with you before our session to make sure I give you my best advice and guidance on the day. We may cover topics such as:
Creating meaningful portfolios and projects
Thematic connections with the landscape
New techniques including ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) and ME (Multiple Exposures)
Advanced composition and framing
More abstract work & Story-telling
Printing and preparing collections

MENTORING & SUPPORT (SHORT or LONG TERM)
For some people the short but intensive 1-day sessions are not quite the right scenario or lacking in long-term impact. As such I’ve begun a flexible mentoring option for photographers who want more bespoke help, guidance and advice with their work.
SHORT TERM:
I offer short ‘ad hoc’ sessions (online) to help with editing, technique, creative ideas, putting a book/exhibition together or finessing your website. These can sometimes just be 1-2hr sessions but I’ll be able to share my experience with you and importantly be an independent eye and friendly guide on your projects. Please do use the contact form below to get in touch with any queries.
Short term sessions are held online
Happy to assist with editing, curating or portfolio review
Any Questions? Please contact me to discuss
Price: £75 per hour
LONG TERM:
Many pursuits within the Arts are taught in ongoing scenarios, I’ve often felt this is lacking in the photographic world outside of the higher education sector. More regular interactions with a teacher/mentor can help build your photographic knowledge and encourage you gently along the path to explore your own aesthetic.
Highly personalised and structured sessions for you
Will help you explore and develop your individual vision
Guidance & expertise to help with shooting, editing and presentation
Assistance with portfolios, book preparations or exhibitions
A mix of online and in-person interactions - All designed specifically for your development
Price: POA - I will build a quote based on your requirements, please contact me to discuss further.
